A friend of mine is passionate about cars. He loves everything about them, from their very mechanics to the history of different vintage makes. He understands them in a way that I never will. But he never felt he had an outlet to express his thoughts and ideas about them. He had some friends who loved cars, but for the most part, kept his passion for himself.
When he told me he was feeling frustrated about not having anywhere to share with other car lovers, I asked him why he hadn’t started a blog. Anyone in the world can put their thoughts and ideas out there online, and it seemed strange to me that anyone would be struggling to do so.
It made me realize that many people still don’t understand the egalitarianism of the internet. Find the right WordPress hosting and you’re well on your way to getting your blog off the ground. You don’t have to be a skilled writer or a qualified authority. If you’ve got something to say, just say it!
There are a number of reasons now is the perfect time to start a blog.
A frustrating cacophony
I think I speak for a lot of people when I say that I’m fed up with hearing politicians, news outlets, and celebrities creating narratives for us. There is an unending cacophony of conflicting voices, all telling us what we’re supposed to believe, what we’re supposed to care about, and why we should listen to them. It is exhausting and wears us down.
This frustration is only amplified when you don’t feel like you’re able to express yourself. Finding your voice and speaking your truth will make all the other noise subside a little. Even if what you’re writing about has nothing to do with current events or politics, the fact is that you’re focusing on what you care about. The noise stops sounding as loud and unavoidable.
Learning on the job
You may not feel like you’re enough of an authority to have an opinion on certain things, even if you’re passionate about them. But the truth is that a lot of the information you need is available online. You engage with the material, rather than just putting out whatever comes to mind. You learn more about your passion and share what you’re learning with others.
You’ll find that you start having more informed opinions, which are interesting, based in fact, and will resonate with others.
It’s super easy
But even if you’re unsure whether starting a blog is what you really want, you can try it anyway. These days, it is super easy. You can use free platforms like WordPress blogs to set up a blog within minutes. You can literally just start writing. And if you’re worried about your writing sounding amateur or too revealing, you don’t have to share it with the people you know.
In other words, you can start blogging risk-free without spending a cent. You may as well try it, and hopefully, you’ll find that you can express your passions as freely as anyone else.
